Are you having pain in the low back when overreaching?

If you are experiencing pain when overreaching then you may have a compression injury to the vertebrae (the bony part of the spine) or the inter-vertebral disc (The two part gel like filling in-between each bone). When suffering with this injury you want to keep spinal loads very low whilst it heals. To do this practise appropriate spinal hygiene.

Spinal hygiene is a achieved by keeping a neutral spine and what that means is when viewed from the front the spine should be straight and from the side the normal curves should be maintained without being excessive. Another key component of spinal hygiene is to maintain a healthy strong core, this can be achieved by doing the big three exercises.

Dr Stuart McGill also recommends a practise called Virtual surgery. This is where you pretend you have had surgery today and start following a post op surgery rehabilitation programme.
